Likely starter at right-back

Wesley is expected to open the 2026 FIFA World Cup as Brazil's starting right-back.

Analysis: Wesley had a decorated career at Flamengo, where he already landed on the Selecao radar, before joining Roma ahead of the 2025/26 campaign. He enjoyed a strong season with the Giallorossi in his first year in Serie A, starting in all but two of his 30 league appearances while tallying five goals and 33 chances created. Brazil hasn't had a right-back this proficient going forward since the prime days of former Inter and Man City star Maicon, so he will be a dangerous threat for a Brazilian squad looking to make a deep tournament run. Wesley's attacking contributions should also make him an attractive fantasy asset in most formats.

Sent off in Lazio contest

Wesley had one shot on target and received a straight red card in the 70th minute of Sunday's 2-0 victory over Lazio.

Analysis: Wesley didn't have a particularly dynamic performance and was sanctioned for a prolonged altercation with Nicolo Rovella. Devyne Rensch, Kostas Tsimikas or Angelino will replace him against Verona next week, depending also on Evan N'Dicka's (thigh) status. He had a strong first season in Serie A overall, scoring five goals and tallying 33 chances created, 95 crosses (20 accurate) and 25 shots (13 on target).

Starting during return

Wesley (thigh) is in the starting XI for Saturday's clash against Bologna.

Analysis: Wesley made his return to the starting lineup after being given a few extra days to heal fully and work on his conditioning following a close call in the last round, with the coaching staff showing enough confidence in his recovery to hand him an immediate recall. His ability to return straight to the first eleven after such an uncertain buildup is a significant boost for a side that relies heavily on his presence at the back.
