Trains separately ahead of WC

Kossounou (thigh) has been training separately from the rest of the Ivory Coast squad and is unlikely to be available for Thursday's friendly against France, according to Daniel Navas of Dsports.

Analysis: Kossounou had already been ruled out of Atalanta's final two matches of the season with a grade one biceps femoris strain, making his ability to train fully with the national team a concern heading into the World Cup. The center-back contributed to four clean sheets across 29 appearances including 20 starts this season, posting 29 tackles, 22 interceptions and 55 clearances before the injury struck. Ivory Coast open their World Cup campaign against Ecuador in Philadelphia on June 14, leaving limited time for Kossounou to prove his fitness before the tournament begins. Should he be unable to recover in time, Wilfried Singo is expected to start in his place at center-back.

Will skip the last two tilts

Kossounou is nursing a grade one biceps femoris strain, Mediaset reported.

Analysis: Kossounou isn't dealing with an overly concerning problem, but he won't be able to play in the last two games of the season. He's had an up-and-down year, as he wasn't a regular after AFCON. He has contributed to four clean sheets in 29 appearances (20 starts), recording 29 tackles, 22 interceptions and 55 clearances. Sead Kolasinac, Honest Ahanor and Marten De Roon are the only healthy options in the back at the moment.

Subs in and out against Milan

Kossounou played about 15 minutes off the bench in Sunday's victory over Milan because of a thigh injury, Sky Italy reported.

Analysis: Kossounou relieved Giorgio Scalvini (ankle) early in the second half but bowed out a few minutes later due to a muscular problem and will be examined before next week's home contest versus Bologna. Honest Ahanor and Marten De Roon would be the next men up in the back if Scalvini, Kossounou and Berat Djimsiti (thigh) didn't recover.
